Pet Food Storage

I have a dog and a cat. Both are deaf. The cat is blind as well. AND the cat will only eat dog food. The dog will eat anything. He is a fatty. To save on costs, I purchase large bags of dog food and refill an airtight storage container that is slim and slides in between the pantry wall and the refrigerator. It is not attractive, but it works well enough. This is what it looks like:

I would describe this container as utilitarian. It does just what it is designed to do, no more, no less. However, in my Shouse I will not have the clever stash space to slide this into. Last night while out holiday shopping I stopped in at my local World Market. This place really has some great finds from around the world. I actually popped in to pick up a bottle of Muscato for my Secret Santa exchange at work, but, of course, had to walk around. That is when I found this:

This large canister holds 20# of dog food and stands 15" tall x 12" in diameter. The lid fits snuggly and the scoop is included. The photo really doesn't do this justice. It is a lovely creamy white and has a brown lid. The entire can is metal. The best part? The price is $24.99 on sale right now (you save $5). You can order it on their website at http://www.worldmarket.com/product/pet-food-canister-wscoop.do?from=ac . This cannister allows me to hide a good quantity of dog food in plain site. It has a nice homey feel and will blend into my decor very well.

So, if you are looking for a great gift for the pet lover in your life, you should consider one of these. I am sure I will be using it for years to come.

How do you store your pet food?

I am showing this to my mom! She has three small dogs, and is always looking for a good solid storage idea for the dog food!
Thanks for sharing!
Blessings to you,

Heather, they are on sale right now. Maybe "Santa" can get her one, lol.
We have always used a large Rubbermaid container and stored it in our pantry, pretty much like the first one you pictured, just not as fancy. ;-)

I have used mine for years. It fit that otherwise ignored space, but my new place won't have it any longer. I am glad I found this to replace it. Otherwise, it would have served its purpose just fine for many more years.
One of my old client had a air tight container for her dog. I always felt like when it was being open, submarine hatch.

Just found your blog yesterday after searching for shed-houses. I am in AZ and hope to build my shed house in less than 5 years. Right now I am working on downsizing all of my stuff. It is a slow process but after a lifetime of accumulating, I can't expect to get rid of it in a day especially is I don't want to just throw it out or give it away.

I keep my dog food in a similar tin but a little smaller. It is a re-used popcorn tin from a boy scout fundraiser. Before that I was keeping it in Ziploc bags but they got holes in them rather quickly

Welcome, Daizy! How exciting that you are doing the same. Stay tuned because I plan to document the entire process!
Unopened canned pet foods have a long shelf life.Contingent upon the fixings and canning methods,at times these foods can be useful for a long time.It's important to keep an eye on the 'use by' dates,then again,so every time you purchase more nourishment,move the more seasoned jars to the front of the shelf and put the more up to date ones in the back.When a can has been opened,you can transfer the unused portion to a sealed shut storage container and refrigerate the nourishment for up to five days.

@Liza Cook.

The cost of healthcare are so high these days, People have hardly any money left for the trips to the vet after paying rent and bills etc and because of these highly costs people left them. If you have pets then you should pay attention to their needs and find any low cost pet vaccination for the lifelong bond and better health.
